My First AIF Story Released: MWA1 - Welcome Home

Not wishing to detract from the mini-fest but I have just released my first AIF story.  You can download it on my shiny new website - http://ptypoeaif.weebly.com

After getting hooked on AIF via the likes of Goblinboy and ArianeB, I discovered Palmer and then Aonehitwonder and decided to try my hand at a story in Adrift.  This is the first result: My Weekend Adventures 1 - Welcome Home. I hope you enjoy it.

You are a college student and have just returned home after an extended time overseas.  Over this weekend you reconnect with existing female friends and also make some new ones.  There are several alternative paths through the weekend, depending on the choices you make.  A number of “successful” endings or scenes are possible.  MWA1 is much bigger than a mini-fest story, hence this separate release.

Many thanks to the beta testers that have reviewed it – hopefully it is now bug free, but please contact me if you do find any bugs.  In the meantime, I am off to start writing MWA 2 and download Daz Studio to learn how to do graphics.  So much to do and so little time!

  2. Well done, only a little way through it but it feels very much in the same style of the game am trying to make at the moment. Enjoying it so far :D thank you :)

    1. I have checked it and it is just Mediafire being cautious about an exe file. As an alternative, I have zipped it up and the zipped file added another download. Run your protection software on it anyway...it is always good to be 110% sure. I will also add a link to download Adrift runner.

  4. Nice work! Getting your first game out there is always a big step, congrats.

I've enjoyed the game so far but I think I've found a game breaking bug? In one playthrough there's a morning where you need to help Jo (witht the spider), but the command "Jo" isn't working. But in another playthrough it did work, not sure what I did differently.

  5. Ouch, sorry! I thought that glitch had gone away. At one stage when I was debugging last week the same command worked in your bedroom but not in the lounge room. I will need to look at it again. That scene is not mandatory for the rest of the day so hopefully you can keep going while I am fixing it. E.g. use your PC once then go downstairs to the kitchen and see if the make breakfast scene opens.

    1. I've encountered the same bug, only with the additional option of either helping Jo or using the hidden camera to spy on Becky in the shower. Neither option works - the former using a 'Jo' or similar command does nothing, and leaving the room and trying to enter her room gets a message saying there's laughing from inside and there's no point in entering or knocking. Trying to watch the webcam feed or use the 'watch Becky' command says there's nothing to watch.

    2. Try "Jo " (with the space) or "Becky " and it should work. Alternatively click on the word highlighted in bold in the text and it will and into your input bar

    3. Hi guys, I have just worked through the game on a number of plot variations and that scene worked for me in all but one run-through. Don't you hate intermittent faults! Can I ask a favour of those that are finding a fault here? Can you make a transcript and send it to me? When you open Runner, go to File in the top menu, scroll down to Start Transcript and enable it. Adrift will then keep a record of your moves, and if you email the transcript to me it helps me to identify where Adrift has a glitch.

      Thanks,
      Ptypoe

  6. What version of ADRIFT should we use? I get strange bugs like the player name not working with the versions I have (and my anti-virus is VERY unhappy about the exe or rar file).

    1. I am using Runner 5.0.34.1 and it is working fine, I have not tried it in other versions yet.
I just rechecked the .exe file on Mediafire and ran my anti-virus (Total Defense) over it without any probs.

  7. I have played once without much luck, I will retry, with the exe I have had the bug, I will try with the taf. In this episode only Jo and Becky are present or there are hidden girls?

  8. There are quite a few other girls to meet...some with detailed scenes in this game and some that I plan to involve in more detail in later games. As an obscure hint to finding them, Rollo can be a great help if you respond when he shows interest in going for a walk.

  9. Can't seem to get the conversation with claire/milly going. I'm at the cafe but I can only seem to ask "Bean" about the "name" or "milly" and that's it.

    1. Claire's responses to each question give hints for other topics to ask about. You should be able to use her name (Claire) once she has answered the name question. Hope that helps :)

    2. I'm currently stuck at the same position as anonymous. My first bit of feedback on the game, other than the missing conditions you seem to be mostly aware of, is that the conversations aren't really intuitive.

The writing is great, and I would love to explore most of the game, but I do get a big "guess the word" vibe from most of the conversations (the french lady took me ~20 minutes to figure out and i was honestly about to give up).

Keep up the great work though, I really want to see mroe from you, though for this game slightly more hints wouldn't be hated, and for the next one I would recommend "general" conversations that could help identify more easily what needs to be done (i.e ask X about herself, about me, and so on)

    3. Snap, I've got her name, but cant figure out what I'm supposed to ask her about now. Good game but the guess work on figuring out what I'm meant to ask about is frustrating.

  10. Sorry guys, it seemed sensible when I wrote it but the proof is in the playing! Ask about name - leads to C commenting about work. Ask about work - leads to C commenting about being student. Ask about study....

Good suggestion about adding in more generic questions. Hope to get onto that today or tomorrow

    1. Aha! Found the issue. I had tried "work", though I tried "ask claire about work" which didn't work, and didn't think of trying without the name. So it's just that little thing :)

Thank you very much for the help ^_^

    1. Is this when you try to open the .taf version?

If so it might be because you're opening it with the Developer rather than the Runner (possibly because that's what's associate with .taf files).

    2. That's exactly what I was doing. Sorry, new to ADRIFT.

  12. It could be a good idea to post your game in other places (for example aif subreddit, aif yahoo, shark lagoon, the community is a bit fragmented and if you post only here I think much people won't know of your game).

    1. Good thinking...I must get onto that. At the moment I am focused on fixing that persistent bug at the start of day two. Someone get me the the bug spray!

  13. Hey Ptypoe, I enjoyed the game, thanks for making. I think I've been successful with all the rest of the girls, but I'm struggling to get anywhere with Jo - I've picked her whenever there's a choice to pick her over Becky, have avoided doing anything with any other girl, and kissed her at the lunch in the park, but can't seem to get anywhere. Any hints you can give me?

    1. Glad you like it! There is one scene with Jo....if you have impressed her enough over the weekend, and you choose the correct final scene with Becky (there are two alternative scenes with Becky late on day 2) then, with Becky's help, you will strike gold with the lovely Jo.

      Good luck!

  14. New version out on my website guys - Version 1.1. See the website link at top of post or on side bar.

Main issue to fix was the task for staying too late on day 1, which was failing to interact with Jo and her action on the morning of day 2. The original task just refused to behave so I deleted it and added a new one....stay up too late now and you sleep in an extra couple of hours, with potential consequences in the game.

Hope you enjoy the change and the game runs smoother for you now.

  15. Someone suggested that I post on other boards - good idea. I have just posted at AIF Reddit. I tried to post at Shark's Lagoon; MWA 1 seems to comply with their guidelines but unfortunately I am a noob there and that board seems to have strict rules about noobs making posts.

So if anyone has full posting privileges at Sharks Lagoon, I am very happy for you to make a post about MWA and give a link to my website. Thanks.....

  17. Interesting first game, I'm a bit curious of the Jo and aBecky ending, but I haven't found the right combination how share the attention between them.

  18. I have tried twice to post on the reddit AIF board. Each time it seems to post fine when I put it up then it has disappeared the next day. Any ideas?
